10 years ago a film from Boyle Heights went to the Sundance Film Festival and took home the dramatic audience award as well as performance awards for actresses America Ferrera & Lupe Ontiveros. That film, “Real Women Have Curves”, came from an original voice with something to say about life’s expectations, women’s relationships and Latino culture. That playwright , Josefina Lopez also co-wrote the screenplay and will be appearing at this special 10th anniversary screening of the groundbreaking film on Thursday, September 6 at the Egyptian Theater.
Josefina will be signing copies of her book, “Real Women Have Curves & Other Plays” in the lobby at 6:30 pm prior to the 7:30 pm screening of the film. We’ll also have copies of her novel, “Hungry Woman in Paris” as well as dvd’s, t-shirts & more.
There will be a Q & A with cast and crew including director Patricia Cardoso, cast members Ingrid Oliu & Soledad St. Hilaire, producers Marilyn Atlas & Effie Brown, and members of the family of the late Lupe Ontiveros after the film too.
Larry Edmunds Bookshop is proud to be participating in this special night, and we’ll also have information about the very cool Casa 0101 Theater, (founded by Josefina Lopez), in Boyle Heights and all the great productions they have coming up in this beautiful modern art & theater space in Boyle Heights.
As always pre-orders and mail orders are available here at the Larry Edmunds Bookshop and we’ll be glad to send some goodies your way.
