A STAR IS BORN Presented by the American Cinematheque and the Art Deco Society of Los Angeles Join us for an illustrated presentation by chef George Geary on classic Los Angeles restaurants – some still a part of the Los Angeles culinary scene, some only fond memories. Geary traces the cultural history (and recipes) of dining in Los Angeles through legendary restaurants, including elite eateries like Scandia, celebrity haunts such as the Brown Derby and later Ma Maison, and Hollywood Boulevard’s own hot fudge legend, ice cream parlor C.C. Brown’s.

The first version of this twice-remade drama about the price of fame features Janet Gaynor as a Hollywood hopeful whose star rises while that of the alcoholic actor she loves (Fredric March) falls. An Oscar winner for best original story and an honorary Oscar winner for its beautiful Technicolor cinematography.
